THE 16 LESSONS • LESSON 10

There is no right way to grieve.
There is only your way.

Do Grief Your Way

One of the hardest parts of grief isn't just losing the person you love. It's wondering if you're grieving the "right" way.

Should you cry more?
Should you cry less?
Should you be angry?
Should you feel relief after watching someone suffer?
Should you be "doing better" by now?

The truth is, grief isn't a test you can pass or fail. It's a deeply personal journey, and no two people will ever walk it exactly the same way.

I've felt shock, anger, guilt, fear, relief, gratitude, and love—sometimes all in the same day. None of those emotions meant I loved Dave more or less. They simply meant I was grieving.

Give yourself permission to feel what you feel, when you feel it.

There is no right way to grieve.

There is only your way.

Trust yourself.

The people who love you aren't judging your grief. You don't have to judge it either.
