THE 16 LESSONS • LESSON 12
Talk to Your Person
Talk to your person. Tell them everything...especially what you've never forgiven yourself for.
When someone we love dies, the conversations don't always end.
Many of us continue talking to them in quiet moments—in the car, while walking the dog, or standing in the kitchen wishing we had just one more chance to hear their voice.
Sometimes we tell them we miss them.
Sometimes we tell them what happened during our day.
And sometimes...we finally tell them the things we've carried in silence.
Guilt is one of grief's heaviest burdens.
We replay conversations, second-guess decisions, and wish we had done something differently. But the people who loved us most would never want us to spend the rest of our lives imprisoned by guilt.
Talk to your person.
Tell them everything.
Especially what you've never forgiven yourself for.
You may discover what I did—that the conversation you thought you needed with them...was really the conversation you needed with yourself.
